The War... and American Politics.
While I'm a staunch supporter of the war, and the events since September 11th, 2001 have totally converted me to a Republican, there are issues I still have trouble with.
One of my biggest problems is that while I have fully converted to a Republican, I really don't want to vote for Bush in 2004. But I can't picture a situation where the War goes well, and Bush isn't chosen as the Republican Presidential Nominee. I guess this problem, as do most others, comes down to the fact that the majority of citizens are ignorant. There are enough people who don't know who the president is; once you get past that problem, you have the people who know that "Bush" is the president, but don't know much more, so when they vote (if they vote) they will most likely pick the name they know... Bush.
As such, I don't fault the Republicans for (what I believe they will do...) nominating Bush as the nominee, but I wish just once that politics could become about doing what's right, not what's safe.
Two very capable people who I would quit my job to help run for office would be former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (I highly recommend his book, "Leadership") or Senator John McCain.
A commentary on tonight's Oscar Ceremony:
I applaude everyone in attendence who "booed" Michael Moore off the stage as he made a fool of him self - showing his ignorance and childish tendencies by confusing his hatred for President Bush, with the problem at hand - the prevalence of people (ie Sadam Hussein) who are willing to spread weapons and hatred to kill us. This is the problem I see with most of these ignorant liberals who are against the war. I have a hard time believeing that they are really against the war. I feel that they are against Bush (not without reason, I too am embarrased to have him as the leader of my country) and therefore, anythign he wants, they "must" be against.
I also applaude Adrien Brody. He not only did an absolutely amazing job in "The Pianist", but he was able to comment on the War, with class, and respect.
Back to Michael Moore; (who's general views & smoking and guns I don't mind, just his fanaticsm) at tonight's Oscars, where he got on stage and reminded us that Bush "stole" the election.
I'd like to remind everyone that while Bush certainly "tried" to steal the presidency, had all the liberals who voted for Nader made their vote actually count, and vote for Gore, Bush wouldn't have had a chance in hell.
Secondly, while I voted for Gore (In fact I was in Israel during the elections, but made a point of filling out an absentee ballot before going to Israel) I am very happy now that Gore didn't win.
